Student and Exchange Visitor Program modifies temporary exemptions for nonimmigrant students

On Monday, July 6, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) announced modifications to temporary exemptions for nonimmigrant students taking online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the Fall 2020 semester. This message is being carefully reviewed by Irvine Valley College, along with colleges and universities nationwide. Impacted IVC international students are those in the United States who would be taking their IVC classes online in the fall 2020 semester. We do not yet know if the information we’ve received will be further defined, or if it may be in the official Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) notification scheduled to be issued Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

We are working diligently to get the best information and guidance for our students. We will send updates to all impacted IVC international students as quickly as possible. Already, the IVC International Student Office has scheduled Zoom information calls and is working to directly assist students about their options.
